WHO, “Workshop on Kangroo Mothercare” SMBBMU on 21st March, 2023

A two days training workshop was carried out at Paeds hospital in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) on Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) at Unit-I of Prof. Shanti Lal. Who organized the training for neonatologists, paediatricians, nurses, and other health care professionals under the sponsorship of WHO & KMC.  

Prof. Dr. Nusrat Shah Vice chancellor SMBBMU, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and shared her views on KMC, She Said “Larkana is doing a wonderful job in terms of trainings on KMC, it is necessary that we train every neonatologist, paediatrician, nurse and other health professionals in charge of preterm or LBW infants in the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) Method. She said, KMC should be practiced not only for babies delivered normally but also those delivered by
C-section.

Preterm births with complications are considered as the leading cause of neonatal deaths in Pakistan and The current infant mortality rate for Pakistan in 2023 is 55.777 deaths per 1000 live births,

Kangaroo Mother Care is a broader package of care defined by the World Health Organization. Kangaroo Mother Care originally referred only to care of low birth weight and preterm infants, and is defined as a care strategy including three main components: kangaroo position, kangaroo nutrition and kangaroo discharge.

At the end the session, Prof. Dr. Nusrat Shah distributed training Certificates amongst the participants.
